This conference took place at Oxford University on the 25th of September and assembled together the world authorities on Robbe-Grillet's work, speakers coming from as far afield as New York, North Carolina, California, New Zealand and North Africa plus Mr. Alain Robbe-Grillet himself. This was followed by 6 papers looking at key themes in his work, ending in an open discussion which allowed the audience to interact with all speakers. The talk that Robbe-Grillet delivered in Oxford was also given at the French Institute in London. In it he talked about the ori- gins of his novel-writing and film-making endeavours and how he believes these two art-forms are really entirely separate and self-sufficient in their natures.
